Wim Trompert, Stage Director

In 2003 Wim Trompert was invited by Pacific Opera Victoria in Canada to stage Alban Berg's 'Wozzeck'. This production, which was also brought to the U.S.A, was a major success and from then on the carreer of Wim Trompert went very fast. He directed since 2003 opera's by Richard Strauss, Leos Janacek, Jules Massenet and Georg Frederic Handel as well as contemporary music theatre by Joost Kleppe and Astor Piazzolla. With two highly acclaimed productions he established his name in Europe: For the Festival of Early Music in Utrecht he staged in 2006 the jubilee production 'l'Ipermestra' by Francesco Cavalli (1658) and in 2009 he directed 'Granida' by the famous Dutch author P.C. Hooft (1605). Recently he created in the Koninklijkel Munt Schouwburg in Brussels 'Pilgrim at the gate of Idleness' with Christianne Stotijn.

Next years Wim Trompert will direct among other productions Donizetti's 'Don Pasquale' for the Reisopera in the Netherlands, 'Pilgrim at the Gate of Idleness' with Christanne Stotijn for the festival Operadagen in Rotterdam, and a brilliant but long forgotten Spanish opera for the Ipermestra Foundation as well as several well known opera's for opera houses in North America and in Europe.

In 2003 werd Wim Trompert door Pacific Opera Victoria uitgenodigd om in Canada ‘Wozzeck’ van Alban Berg te regisseren. Het was met deze productie - die later ook in de U.S.A. te zien zou zijn - dat de regiecarrière van Wim Trompert een vlucht nam. Hij regisseerde inmiddels opera’s van Strauss, Janacek, Massenet en Händel naast modern muziektheater van Kleppe en Piazzolla.

Met twee bijzondere projecten heeft hij zijn naam in Europa gevestigd: voor de viering van het 25 jarig jubileum van het Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht regisseerde hij in 2006 het vergeten meesterwerk ‘l’Ipermestra’ van Francesco Cavalli en dit voorjaar bracht hij ‘Granida’ een uniek muziektheaterwerk van P.C. Hooft uit 1605 op de planken.

Een heel bijzonder project zou 'Pilgrim at the Gate of Idleness' worden, dat tot stand kwam als co-productie tussen de Muntschouwburg in Brussel en de Doelen / Operadagen 2010 in Rotterdam. 'Pilgrim' is opgebouwd uit onder andere 'Das Buch der Hängende Gärten' van Schoenberg en 'Vier ernste Gesänge' van Brahms, gezongen door Christianne Stotijn, met Joseph Breinl, piano en video art van Daan Noppen, Monica Hernandez en Marco Borggreve.

Nieuwe projecten:

Voor de Operadagen Rotterdam regisseert Wim Trompert in voorjaar 2010 'Pilgrim at the Gate of Idleness', met Christianne Stotijn. Voor de Nationale Reisopera in Enschede ensceneert hij 'Don Pasquale' van Gaetano Donizetti.
